How to Root Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U

No doubt Samsung’s S Series smartphones are the best contribution by the Samsung Technologies to the Android world. With Samsung growing its S series with the latest launch of Samsung Galaxy S20, we can assume that Samsung is not going to stop the S series.

With the evolution of this S series, we have forgotten the old gold models of Samsung. Like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8Plus. Some people still cherish this beast and if you are one of them, then hold on tight because you are going to get a massive change in your Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U.

Before you begin, make sure:

  1. You have made a backup of your important data as the data will get erased from your device.
  2. Your device has a minimum of 50% charging.
  3. Download the latest Samsung USB Drivers.
  4. Download Nougat Rescue ROM package to your PC: Click here to Download

Steps to Root Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U

1. Factory Reset & Boot into Download Mode

Step 1. Turn Off your Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U

Step 2. Now, simultaneously hold Volume Down, Bixby, and Power buttons and as soon as you see a blue screen, release all the three buttons and hold the Volume Up Button.

Step 3. Navigate to “Wipe data/factory reset” option using the Volume keys and press the Power button to select the option.

Step 4. If prompted, then select “Factory data reset“

Step 5. Once Factory Reset is done, select “Reboot to Bootloader” to get into the Bootloader.

Step 6. Once in the Download Mode, connect your device to PC using USB.

2. Installing ROM

Step 1. Extract the downloaded Nougat Rescue ROM package to your PC.

Step 2. Launch the Odin Tool by clicking on “Modded Odin v3.13.1 Raymonf.exe“

Step 3. Inside Odin tool,

  • Deselect “Auto Reboot“
  • Click on the BL button and select the “BL_ENG_BOOTLOADERS_SAFESTRAP_G955U_V7.tar.md5” file

Step 4. Click on “Start” to flash the file

The tool will show a “Pass” message on the screen. 

Step 5. Close the tool and force-reboot your phone into Download Mode. To do this

  • Hold the Volume Down and Power button together
  • As the screen goes off, hold Volume Down, Bixby, and Power button together to enter Download Mode.

Step 6. Now, launch the Odin tool again and this time click on the AP button and Select “AP_SAFESTRAP_RESCUE_SYSTEM_IMAGE.tar.md5” and Click on Start to flash it.

This should show a Fail message.

Step 7. Now, again launch the Odin tool and Click on BL button and Select “BL_ENG_BOOTLOADERS_SAFESTRAP_G955U_V7.tar.md5” and flash it by clicking on the Start Button.

Your phone will now Reboot in the Nougat OS and you have gained root permissions on your Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U. Additionally, if you want to modify the software, you can download various ROMs on your device and you are free to customize it.
