Lovers of rugged smartphones have a reason to rejoice: Samsung Galaxy S9 Active is likely to be launched before its expected schedule. And though the launch is still more than 6 months away, it’s still a good news.
Here we’ll take a look on the expected release date and pricing of Samsung Galaxy S9 Active based on its rumored and expected specs. Let’s begin:
Samsung Galaxy S9 Active Specs
To determine the likely price of this device it’s important to take a look on its expected specifications first. Since Samsung Galaxy S9 Active will be rugged version of company’s Galaxy S9 flagship, we can safely count on Galaxy S9 rumors to predict what may be included in S9 Active.
And based on those rumors we’re hearing some pretty interesting things (some of which are clearly disappointing).
Based on the information that XDA Developers forum has received, it’s expected that the device will come with Snapdragon 845 processor, 4GB RAM, 5.7-inch QHD+ (3,200 x 1,800 pixels resolution) AMOLED display, 12mp dual lens primary camera, 8mp secondary camera and 64GB of internal storage.
The fingerprint sensor is also going to be present on the back of device once again, and the device may once again lack the infinity display for achieving sturdiness. Military grade material has already been used to build the currently available Galaxy S8 Active, so we can safely expect it to be used again when it’s time to build up Galaxy S9 Active.
Now, among these major specifications the key disappointments are 4GB RAM and lack of an optical fingerprint sensor. The 4GB RAM choice is a bit baffling because company has already gone to 6GB standard in Galaxy Note 8. A 6GB RAM version of Galaxy S8 Plus was also released after its launching.
In such a scenario it doesn’t make sense for Samsung to still keep the RAM capacity capped at 4GB in its first flagship for the next year, so take this rumor with a pinch of salt.
The optical fingerprint sensor, which is other major point of disappointment, is also due from a long time so it feels bad to see that company has failed to implement it. But that’s not a problem limited to Samsung alone – even Apple decided to ditch the fingerprint sensor altogether when it realized that it’s not going to be implemented properly by the time of iPhone X launch. So we should probably get over it now.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Active Release Date
According to Korean news site The Investor Samsung is planning an early launch for its Galaxy S9 next year, so we can also expect Galaxy S9 Active to come a bit ahead of its schedule. S9 will be launched in January, so S9 Active may also be launched in July or August.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Active Price
Now after seeing the specs and expected release date of this device we can draw some conclusions on price. Despite having same RAM and display size Galaxy S9 Active will be significantly different from its predecessor, so we can expect a reasonable difference in the pricing of both these devices.
The processor will be better, there will be a dual-lens camera in the device and it’s also likely to have a bigger battery, so we can expect Samsung Galaxy S9 Active to be priced above $900. And if it remains an AT&T exclusive like its predecessor then the monthly price for a 2 year contract is likely to be above $35.
Please keep in mind that these’re very early stage estimates based on my calculation and understanding. Nothing is confirmed until the device is released, and we’ll continue to update you about latest developments related to this device as they unfold so keep checking back to stay updated.
