At&T started the concept of active variants of Galaxy device with Samsung Galaxy S4 Active in 2013. Since then, it has released the active variants of each & every Galaxy Smartphone every year.
The active version is considered as the rugged version of the original with MIL-STD-810G exterior certification and IP ratings. We got the active variant of S7 with an upgraded battery of 4000 mAh so it suggests that AT&T will also release the active version of the latest Samsung Galaxy S8.
Recently, a user agent string revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is on the way and is given a model number which is SM-G892A. It is believed that it will be AT&T exclusive with STD-810G certification which means the device can easily survive falls and drops without any problem.
It is the best part of Active devices as they are prepared in such a rugged way that they can suffer all drops & falls along with dust & water since they also feature IP68 certification.
The device is codenamed ‘Crusier’ and will feature the wireless and fast charging just like the original one. The most noticeable change in Samsung Galaxy S8 Active would be the rubber protection around the edges which makes it drop proof.
Though, this will make the device larger and heavier but it will add extra layer to the strength of the device. There would be shatterproof protection on the display as well so that if there is any crack on the display it won’t spread to the full screen.
If we go by the previous records of Active devices, the specs remain same as that of regular version with only one change. The batteries on the Active Models are usually upgraded.
The latest example is that of Samsung Galxy S7. The original version was powered by a 3000 mAh of battery while the Active version was upgraded with a 4000 mAh of battery. There are chances that you may get some color options as well because S7 Active was available in Camo Green, Sandy Gold and Titanium Gray colours which are not available in the original version.
Samsung Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8’ display and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. It features a 4 GB of RAM along with 64 GB of internal storage. There is a 12 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera.
These specs will be same in Samsung Galaxy S8 Active as well. There is still no information on whether Active version will get the delicate edge display or not. Since, active versions are rugged and drop proof, it would be difficult to incorporate the much-hyped Infinity Display.
The device is in the news for two months and is expected to arrive at AT&T at any moment now. We can expect that Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will soon make its debut in the United States.
The device recently got listed at the Wi-Fi alliance with the same model number as that during the user agent string. Since, it has got the Wi-Fi Certification now, it is inched away from hitting the market.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Release Date & Pricing
If Samsung follows the trend, it can be expected that S8 Active will be launched in the month of June. It will be exclusive to AT&T and will be available only in US.
Though users can get it through channels such as Amazon and eBay. Galaxy S7 active was priced $100 extra over the normal price of S7 so it can be expected that S8 Active will cost around $820 since original cost $720.
