One of the biggest complaints of Samsung’s Galaxy S Active series has been the rugged and very unappealing look, and then again it’s exactly what previous consumers have been looking for. The Active series has become known as the highly durable spinoff off the maiden series and the past few years we have seen the durable version be introduced as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 Active. But now we’re starting to hear something just a bit different that will truly change the image of the entire Galaxy S Active series and give consumers the best of all worlds.
New rumors are starting to materialize suggesting the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will sport a bold new look. What exactly this means is anyone’s guessing game at this time as Sammy is keeping the 2017 S8 Active under tight wraps. Contrary to what some are suggesting that the days of the Active are all-but over, it sounds more like the S8 Active will be getting a much needed facelift making the visuals much more appealing.
In order to do this, Samsung will have to introduce a much more durable surround that won’t look so, well, durable. The rubberized surround we’ve seen in the previous variants of the Galaxy S Active including the S6 and S7 Active are military grade specs which provides a very strong overlay. The standard S7 sports a much sexier full-metal body which offers much less in the form of durability.
We’re hearing Samsung could replace the rubberized surround with more of a bendable composite. We’ve seen this in the LG G Flex 3 which became highly popular with consumers looking for something a bit more practical considering the fragility of smartphones has always become the biggest concern.
Aside from the surround, we’re also hearing the Galaxy S8 Active will sport the newest version of Gorilla Glass. Gorilla Glass 5 is expected to become the face of many 2017 flagships including the S8 Active and Galaxy S8. This nearly indestructible screen won’t exactly mean it won’t crack, but we won’t see the typical spider web that results from one little mishap.
And of course the S8 Active will be IP68 certified making it dustproof, shockproof, and water resistant over 1.5 meters, for a duration of up to 30 minutes. We’ll keep you post on the actual reveal which should take place during the 2nd quarter of 2017.
